A light-soaked residence in the heart of Toronto, where Mediterranean warmth meets Canadian restraint.
Casa Lumière began as a tired post-war townhouse with low ceilings and a fragmented plan. Our brief was to coax light into every corner without losing the building's quiet character.
We opened the rear façade with a steel-framed arch, lined the main floor in honed travertine, and built bespoke white-oak joinery from floor to ceiling. The result is a home that feels both serene and full of life — a place that holds the family at every hour of the day.
Materials were chosen for the way they age: limewash, brushed brass, raw linen. Nothing in the house is final. Everything is meant to soften, deepen, become more itself with time.
This was a full residential interior design commission, so we carried it end to end — space planning, custom joinery, lighting design, and the final styling — rather than handing over a concept and leaving the rest to chance. The decisions that usually get rushed in the last weeks, like where a reading light falls or how a drawer lands in the hand, were drawn and resolved early, then held to all the way through construction.
Toronto shaped the way we worked here. Long winters, a narrow lot, neighbours close on either side — we planned the house around the light the city actually gives, drawing it in from the rear and carrying it deep into the plan. It is the same instinct we bring to residential interiors across the city: work with the light you have, not the light you wish for. The kitchen, where the family now spends most of its day, was the first room we drew and the last we let go of.
