Luxury Interior Design in Toronto
Luxury is not a finish schedule. It is a room where nothing was left to chance — where the joinery reveal lines up, the light is where you need it at seven in the evening, and the expensive things are the ones you touch.

What we mean by luxury
The word gets used to mean marble. We use it to mean resolved. A luxury interior is one where every decision has been made deliberately and nothing is a default — not the switch plate, not the depth of the return on the island, not what the room does at dusk.
That is expensive because it takes time, not because it takes rare stone. Rare stone is easy to buy. A wall of book-matched slabs in a room with a badly placed ceiling light still reads as a mistake in an expensive material.
Most of our Toronto work at this level starts in one of three buildings: a Forest Hill or Rosedale house with good bones and forty years of bad additions, a Yorkville condo where the developer's finishes are competent and characterless, or a new build where the architecture is settled and the interior has not been thought about at all. Each of those needs a different first move.
Where the money should go
The order matters more than the total. Light first — natural light, then the electrical plan, then the fittings. A room with the wrong ceiling plan cannot be rescued by anything you put in it, and it is the one thing you cannot change later without opening the ceiling.
Joinery second. Custom millwork is where a Toronto house stops looking like every other Toronto house, and it is the single largest line most clients underestimate. Not because the cabinetry is expensive, but because the good millworkers here are booked eight to twelve weeks out and a rushed shop drawing is a permanently wrong reveal.
Then the surfaces, then the loose furniture. We put stone and tile after joinery deliberately, because the slab you fall in love with in a yard has to work with the cabinetry you have already drawn, and it is far easier to find another beautiful slab than to redraw a kitchen.
What is genuinely worth spending more on: hardware you open every day, upholstery you sit in every day, and the lighting you cannot see. What is usually not: the third stone in a room that already has two.
Full-scope, and what that means at this level
On a luxury project the studio produces the whole set: plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, joinery drawings, a finish schedule, and a lighting plan. We coordinate with your architect and your structural engineer, and we are on site through construction — not for a walk-through at the end, but at the points where a decision gets made in concrete.
That last part is where most of the value is. The gap between a good drawing and a good room is closed by the small things, and the small things set fast. Somebody has to be standing there when the tiler asks which way the pattern runs.
We work with the trades already established in the GTA rather than importing a crew. The millworkers, plasterers, and stone fabricators here are genuinely good and there are a lot of them, and a trade that knows the city's buildings, its inspectors, and its delivery constraints is worth more on a heritage renovation than a name from somewhere else.
Timelines, honestly
A whole-home luxury project in Toronto runs nine to eighteen months from first meeting to handover. Design and drawings take two to four of those. Permits, if you are touching structure or moving plumbing, add their own weeks and are outside anybody's control.
The long poles are almost always custom: millwork, stone fabrication, and anything imported. Upholstery lead times ran twelve to twenty weeks through 2025 and have not fully come back. We build the schedule around those from the first month rather than discovering them in month seven.
If someone quotes you a luxury whole-home renovation at four months, ask what they are leaving out.
What a luxury project includes
Custom millwork design
Every cabinet, wardrobe, and panelled wall drawn by us and detailed with the shop before anything is cut.
Lighting design
A circuit and control plan worked out around how you use each room at different hours, not a grid of pot lights.
Material sourcing
Slab selection in person, sample sets you can hold, and specification down to grout colour and hardware finish.
Trade coordination
We draw alongside your architect, engineer, and builder, and we attend site through construction.

Questions, answered
What counts as a luxury interior design project in Toronto?
Practically, it is a project where the interior is fully custom rather than specified from catalogue: custom millwork throughout, a designed lighting plan, stone and tile selected slab by slab, and a studio on site through construction. In the Toronto market that usually means a whole-home renovation in Forest Hill, Rosedale, Yorkville, or the Bridle Path, or a new build where the interior scope is drawn from scratch.
How long does a luxury home project take?
Nine to eighteen months from first meeting to handover, with two to four months of that in design and drawings. Custom millwork, stone fabrication, and imported upholstery are the long poles — millwork shops in the GTA are commonly booked eight to twelve weeks out. Permits add their own time when structure or plumbing moves.
Do you work on heritage houses?
Yes, and they need the coordination more than anything else does. A Toronto house with genuine heritage fabric brings structural surprises, undersized services, and a permit path that is longer than a straight renovation. We would rather find those in month one with an engineer than in month six with a demolition crew standing around.
Can you work with my architect?
Yes. On new builds and gut renovations we prefer to be in early, while the architecture is still deciding how light moves through rooms. Interiors brought in after framing inherit whatever the framing decided, and undoing that is the most expensive kind of change.
What does luxury interior design cost in Toronto?
Design fees for a whole home run $15,000 to $60,000 and up in the 2026 Toronto market, or 20% to 30% of total furnishings and trade spend, commonly with a 10% to 20% procurement fee on items sourced through trade. YaDesign's own whole-home fee runs about 35% below that market range, at $9,750 to $39,000 and up, or 13% to 19%. That is the design fee only. The build itself — millwork, stone, fixtures, and trade labour — is a separate and much larger budget. Our Toronto cost guide sets out the full market ranges.
